I heard so much abotu this Mocumentary, and was dyin' to see it .. finally did, on video. And I was surprised. It was touted as hilarious, but I found it kind of touch, if ridiculous in places. Also, I foudn it plain scary to contemplate the deafness an dthe bleeding ears. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh.

I thought the actor who played Frankie Wilde was actually very good and convincing.

Loved the deaf teacher - sweet, and sassy.

Also -- yo! Homage to Spinal Tap when the hearing...

Looking forward to in 2006!!!

To me, 2005 wasn't a very good year for movies. Looking at the calendar for 2006 gives me hope that I will go to the movies more than the paltry 41 times I did last year. Here are some that I'm really looking forward to seeing:

I have seen hmmmmm... more than half of Woody's movies, and I have a special fondness for the Purple Rose of Cairo. (Jeff Daniels: "You must really love this movie....") I am also old enough to have seen Bananas at the drive-in as a kid. And Sleeper as a teen. ("That's a big chicken!" Why does that line make me laugh so much?)

most disappointing films of 2005

What were the most disappointing films of the year for you guys? Mine:

1. Oliver Twist: Polanski could have made a dark and engaging adaptation, but it was just boring, overlong, and had a terrible score.

2. Jarhead: Not bad, actually the film is overall pretty compelling, but it didn't flow right. It's hard for me to explain. It feels like a collection of scenes put together, and not a movie.

3. The Weatherman: Cage is great, so are a few other elements of the...

Say what you will about the book. The trailer looks absolutely amazing. At first I was a little apprehensive about Tom Hanks and Paul Bettany. Now....I cant think of anyone better. I cant remember the last time I was so excited about the summer movie season.

Now, I know arguing over movie awards is very dumb at the end of the day, but c'mon, you know you want to do it. I used to actually watch the freakin' announcements of things like the Golden Globes and the Oscars, but I didn't even know Globe noms came out today until I visited someone's blog.

Howl's Moving Castle

Has anybody seen Hayao Miyazaki's "Howl's Moving Castle"? It got a limited release in the U.S. in 2005 and it's coming out on DVD in March of 2006. For those of you who don't know, Miyazaki is the guy who made "Princess Mononoke" and "Spirited Away." His films are so much fun to watch. Ironically, his films have a very Kubrick-like pace to them, which I love.

In my opinion, Miyazaki is one of the top three best directors working today. The other two being...

In here, lay--dies!

I saw Pride and Prejudice tonight. Sigh... it was very difficult to watch at first, because I LOVE the 1990s BBC production with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.

Someone should tell THIS Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen I think) that restrained and shy doesn't mean wooden.

But other than that, I enjoyed this adaptation, even though it is less literal. Also I think the feeling of the book is a little wilder (some other critic said it felt more Wuthering Heights...

I saw this yesterday. It was a very good movie. Joaquin Phoenix, even though he doesn't look a whole lot like Cash, really pulls it off. Reese Witherspoon is such a good actor. She can do anything. How does she do that? Anywyas, very similar to Ray in that I am definitely gonna buy that soundtrack.

P.S. There has been some controversy about the way his first wife is portrayed. I thought her character was very realistic and totally justified in everything she said. There have...
