Life Aquatic Screenplay book overdue |
Lead | |
|
Anyone know the status of the screenplay movie book that was supposed to have been released yesterday? So much for it being released somewhat near the DVD release. It wouldn't be so frustrating (the release date for it being given and than postponed to another future date) if I could locate a screenplay/script for it on one of those free screenplay/script sites.

Unfortunately, I'm sure TLA's poor performance at the box office is the reason for the delay. I wonder if it will ever be released.

Doesn't seem to me Box Office translates to speedy publishing. Two entirely different planets. Maybe they've not been happy with the whole package and reworking some ideas. It's not just the screenplay, it's a whole ta-do, y'know.

The interest of the type of moviegoers who buy scripts probably can't be measured by the Box Office. Most people just don't buy screenplays. But I would think that the Box Office would demostrate that Wes' hardcore fans went to see it, and sales from his previous screenplays, soundtracks, and dvds should demonstrate that we'll buy the stuff. I think it's possible that they may decide to make the book less comprehensive and less costly to produce, and end up just selling the script.
Cut! That was perfect! |

Can anyone comment on the content of the promotional only script/press book that was released in conjunction with the movie (with Bill Murray on the cover)? I've seen it on ebay but had wanted to hold off on it to get the movie book instead.

frankly, altho i'd love to have a copy of the comprehensive book, i doubt it'll ever see the light of day. from what i've read on amazon, this was supposed to be a grand-scale thing, with interviews, photos, the screenplay of course, and a whole bunch of other really nifty things. now, i haven't seen them doing anything this detailed for the BIG movies, so why would they bother now with TLA, which grossed modestly overall. yeah, wes-fans and fans of more offbeat movies liked it, but you can't aim a product just at these ppl. you'd go out of business. ;'
i don't know how the whole thing works, but i'm skeptical. ;' reality had met me, such a short time ago, in such and ugly shape, that i have no wish to come in contact with it again. somewhere in me a dark fear was still crouching and i took refuge within the fantastic like a distressed child in his book of fairy tales. i did not want to look ahead, and not at all to look back. Sure you can aim these things at smaller audiences, like ours. Publishers print novel after novel after novel by unknown authors and put it out into a flooded market all of the time. I quite agree with Kumar's best guess, we're a solid legion but perhaps the production costs were cutting into their profit, and morrigan, right, everybody's gotta eat.
And on the B.O. -- I'd like to see the sales on the DVD, because I think that would be a more relevant $number at this juncture, if you're going to consider that. If you compare TRT Spec. Ed. sales to TLA Spec. Ed., what do you think we'd see? The DVD barely popped a spike on the Racer board. :shrug Anyway, the way above is why I wondered if they're just doing something of a redesign. Something with a little less of the more. Hope so. I wish I had a million dollars ... HOT daaaawg! |

I got my TLA DVD at WalMart. Don't believe TRT was sold there.

I think that may depend on where you live, Bert. KC got her TLA bare-bones for $10 at WalMart.
I know, you should hear that guy I work(ed) for when he says B.O. with his Frenchy-Englishy-Middle-Easterny mix. Crazy funny, because I'm all: (B-O! hee!) I wish I had a million dollars ... HOT daaaawg! |

i agree highwaters. i think i just expressed myself badly. i didn't say they are NEVER gonna print it, but that they're never gonna print it in the deluxe way they should have.
i work in a printing house, and believe me, there's a world of a difference between printing a book, and printing a book with color photos, special design, and all the nifty things it said it was gonna have. the price isn't double, but it can tripple, and unless you're printing a whole lotta them, it really isn't worth it. yeah, the fans'll buy it, but believe me, they won't make any money off it. i personally tend to believe they're gonna print the screenplay, and maybe have a few pages of color stuff/photos in it and some interviews. reality had met me, such a short time ago, in such and ugly shape, that i have no wish to come in contact with it again. somewhere in me a dark fear was still crouching and i took refuge within the fantastic like a distressed child in his book of fairy tales. i did not want to look ahead, and not at all to look back. Aw, don't give up hope, Eli. Amazon won't just keep your money forever, either. If you want to cancel, you should get in touch with them.

So, I contacted Newmarketpress and here's the response I got...
At this time, publication of THE LIFE AQUATIC book is indefinitely postponed. Sincerely, Harry Burton -- Harry Burton Publicity Director Newmarket Press |

not to worry - amazon doesn't charge you until the item ships. if you pre-ordered it, you won't be charged unless the book is actually published.

Hmm...
I'm not sure. They sent me a promotional book script (i.e. the "for your consideration" one). I imagine we're talking about the same thing? Chaso |
