It is an odd concoction of bitter and sweet, kind of like bitter orangepeel and sugar. You can't really drink it straight -- which is why you have to laugh when Bill does in TLA. And I say that not because I am not man enought to drink things straight -- I am a good irish gal who drinks whiskey - but because the drink is just plain awful that way.

Sometimes in Italian grocery stores you see tiny little bottles of pinky-red pop, a kind of bitters. It tastes like that but with a boozy kick.
